A number of players and staff have returned positive COVID-19 tests on Sunday morning.
Earlier this week, Tottenham announced they had suffered a COVID-19 outbreak. The English FA decided to cancel the Spurs’ match against Brighton. However, the problem might be bigger than they initially anticipated.
According to GOAL, several players and staff members have returned positive COVID-19 tests on Sunday morning. However, the whole group of players who travelled to Norwich on Saturday have reportedly tested negative.
The club sent the players with positive cases home and immediately informed the Premier League officials of the situation.
Man United players who tested negative remained in the training facilities but only participated in non-contact training. Despite the reportedly small number of cases, the FA might still decide to cancel Man United’s next league match. The club are yet to announce a statement on the issue.
The emergence of the highly-transmissible omicron variant has led to a rapid rise of the COVID-19 cases across Europe. Germany has already imposed new restrictions on Stadium attendance, and with the new outbreaks, England might do the same.
According to The Athletic, the Premier League has told the clubs to return to ‘emergency measures’ against the virus.
