The AC Milan striker is determined to end his poor record in the World Cup after ending his international retirement.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has never scored in the World Cup finals and hopes to right that wrong in the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

After almost five years in retirement, Zlatan donned the famous yellow and blue jersey of Sweden once more in Thursday’s 1-0 win over Georgia for the national team’s opening match of their 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.

The 39-year-old actually set up Viktor Claesson’s match-winning goal in his 117th appearance at international level.

But aware his distinguished CV includes no goals in World Cup finals, having previously tried and failed in 2002 and 2006, Zlatan has suggested he could still be around in a year’s time to right that wrong.

“I have one thing with World Cups and it’s that I have never scored a goal in the World Cup finals, so that’s something I have to beat,” said Zlatan in a post-match conference.

“I can’t have that on zero.”

Sweden next take a trip to Kosovo on Sunday for their next World Cup qualifier in Group B.
