Real Madrid fell to a shock home defeat to Alaves on Saturday, and even their own manager was at loss to explain how it transpired.

Zinedine Zidane admitted he had ‘no explanation’ as to how Real Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat to Alaves at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Saturday night’s loss came just three days after the club’s impressive 2-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan in Italy. It was also their second defeat in four games across all competitions, third in five home games, and third overall in LaLiga.

Despite Casemiro being on target, the Brazilian’s effort was of little consolation as Lucas Perez and Joselu’s goals wrapped up a shock victory for Alaves.

“I have no explanation for tonight,” admitted Real Madrid boss Zidane in his post-match conference.

“We’ve had good and bad moments in games like today’s. Especially at the beginning, when they scored a goal after three minutes.

“We had time to get back into the game and then things got very tough for us and it became difficult. Just like the other day in Milan, we played a good game today, but three days later, it’s tough to play a game like this at home, but that’s the reality of today.

“What we’re going to do is keep working, trying to get all the players back and then change the dynamics. We don’t have the consistency in our matches or in our results.”

Real Madrid now trail LaLiga leaders Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid by six points in fourth, with the latter boasting a game in hand.
