Ahead of a crucial week for Real Madrid, Zidane explained why coaching this group of players can be so challenging at times.
Zinedine Zidane might be one of the best managers in Real Madrid’s history but that doesn’t mean the job comes easy for him. Throughout the years, the Frenchman has encountered a number of obstacles with some players. In reality, his biggest mistakes as a coach have been related to his relationship with some of the stars at the club.
Namely two players come to mind when you think about ‘Zizou’ and his mistakes at Real Madrid: James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale. But the gaffer also has problems with some of the players he manages right now and he acknowledged the difficulties of keeping everyone happy. The upcoming week will be crucial for the Spanish giants as they face Osasuna, Chelsea, and Atletico Madrid in the fight for two major titles.
Zidane can’t please all the players.
In a press conference reported by Marca, this is what Zidane said about his player management skills: “We have done what was convenient. It is not easy to manage a squad like Real Madrid’s, because everyone has an opinion. “It is not easy, but even so we have had many difficulties. Whose fault it is? You do not have to try to find out, it is a somewhat strange year in every way. But above all the preparation is fundamental and we have not had any preparation and then it has been very complicated.
“If you do not prepare in time, these things can happen. We manage it in the best possible way. Nothing will change [after Barcelona’s defeat]. We do not control what’s happening around [us]. We are going to select the best team to win [against Osasuna on Saturday]. We have had many changes, many injuries, but the important thing is that those who are can compete. “I am not happy about the rivals’ defeats. It will be difficult, and we are going to try. There are seven games to go and we are not thinking about the end.”
