The former Chelsea man has looked unlike himself ever since completing a dream switch to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2019.

Real Madrid must be patient with Eden Hazard as the player is still low on confidence after his recent setbacks, says Zinedine Zidane.

Hazard, having missed the majority of the first half of 2020-21 due to a variety of fitness issues, made only his seventh start of the season in all competitions in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final on Wednesday.

The Belgium international put in a lackluster performance, managing just a single shot on target and failing to execute even one successful dribble.

Unable to produce any attacking threat, he was replaced by Vinicius Junior at the 67-minute mark as the reigning Spanish Super Cup champions went on to lose the match 2-1.

Much criticism has been aimed at Real Madrid’s costliest player who also struggled to make any sort of impact in the 0-0 draw at Osasuna last Saturday.

“He needs to recover confidence, play a great game or score a goal, just to do something different,” Zidane said in defense of Hazard, via Daily Mail.

“We know what a great player he is and we need to be patient with him as he is working hard.

“We are behind him and we must give him time. The fans want to see the best version of Eden so we must be patient. We’re sticking with him and he really wants to step up.

“But today it wasn’t just Eden, we’re all in this together.”
