Let’s take a look at the biggest goal margins in the history of the Champions League finals.
UEFA Champions League has represented the highest level of European football for years now. During the UCL nights, football fever reaches beyond the national leagues as fans watch the absolute best teams of the continent face off.
The Champions League final comes after a season-long tournament that finally sees its last two contenders. However, not every runner-up is able to end the game with a valiant defeat.
The biggest win in a Champions League final
Real Madrid are the number one team that comes to mind when thinking about Champions League records.
The Blancos have registered the biggest win in the history of the Champions League finals when they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in 1960.
The game took place at Glasgow’s Hampden Park in front of 127,000 supporters. Real Madrid, who had eliminated Barcelona in the semifinals with a 6-2 win on aggregate, displayed a dominant performance throughout the game.
The game is probably the prime example of the Di Stefano- Puskas partnership in Real Madrid’s attacking line. Puskas scored four goals against the Bundesliga giants while Di Stefano bagged a hat-trick. Richard Kress and Erwin Stein scored Eintracht’s goals that night.
Other big wins in the history of UCL finals
There are four other Champions League finals with similar four-goal margins. We picked the 1960 final based on the higher number of Real Madrid’s goals.
