Ace Football previews the Bundesliga match between Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund, and offers betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.

Borussia Dortmund begin the post-Lucien Favre era by taking a trip to northwest Germany to face Werder Bremen on Tuesday night.

The last time these two teams faced each other came back in February, where Dan-Axel Zagadou and Erling Haaland’s goals sealed Dortmund a 2-0 win in Weserstadion.

A 5-1 home defeat to Stuttgart over the weekend, however, has left the visitors down in fifth-place in the Bundesliga table and without a manager. Assistant coach Edin Terzic will take the reins until further notice.

Dortmund’s attempt to turn their season around leaves a sense of uncertainty for Werder. The hosts, who are eight points behind their opponents in the standings in 13th, have suffered their own struggles and cannot afford to leave empty-handed.

Werder Bremen Form & Stats

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, via an away goal ruling in their two-legged playoff against second-tier outfit Heidenheim (2-2 on aggregate), Werder sit four points above the danger zone this term in 13th-place.

But results recently haven’t gone their way at all, having failed to win any of their last eight games (D5 L3). A 2-0 defeat to RB Leipzig last weekend, meanwhile, ensured them of a third consecutive loss in the league.

The Green-Whites struggled to pose any significant threat against Leipzig, registering just two shots on target.

That said, Florian Kohfeldt’s tactics caught Leipzig out early on by pressing high from the start. Marcel Sabitzer’s penalty, however, changed the tide of the match and Werder simply couldn’t create any clear opportunities.

Werder don’t normally score a lot, averaging 1.27 goals per game this season. But they are consistent in delivering a goal, having found the back of the net in 10 of their 11 league fixtures so far. This could prove key against a Dortmund side struggling in defense recently.

Key Team Stats
  • Winless in their last 8 games (D5 L3).
  • Won just 1 of their last 5 home league games (D2 L2).
  • Won just 1 of their last 5 home games against Dortmund in all competitions (D2 L2).
  • Conceded at least 1 goal in their last 10 home games against Dortmund in all competitions.
  • Exactly 2 goals in 6 of their 11 league games this season.
  • BTTS in 9 of their 11 league games this season.

Borussia Dortmund Form & Stats

A shock 5-1 home defeat to Stuttgart sent Favre packing last weekend and now interim coach Terzic must find a way to turnaround Dortmund’s season before it’s too late.

Things had begun on a promising note for BVB upon winning five of their opening six league games. They also finished as Group F winners in their Champions League campaign. But a run of one win in their last five games in all competitions (D2 L2) has dropped them out of the top-four in the Bundesliga.

Desperate times have called for desperate measures. And Favre’s failure to collect victories against Cologne, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Stuttgart was a typical example of his reign. Back-to-back Bundesliga finishes are impressive indeed, but a lack of consistency compared to Bayern Munich cost the club dearly in the title battle.

Terzic, along with youth coaches Sebastian Geppert and Otto Addo, will now hope to breathe life back into the team.

They must do so, however, without injured top-scorer Erling Haaland. But Giovanni Reyna has shown great promise this term, with two goals and an assist in Dortmund’s last three league outings.

Key Team Stats
  • Won just 1 of their last 5 league games (D2 L2).
  • At least 1 first-half goal in their last 9 games in all competitions.
  • Exactly 2 goals in 3 of their 5 away league games this season.
  • Giovanni Reyna has provided 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 3 league games.
  • BTTS in 7 of their last 8 games in all competitions.
