The big-money summer signing has eaten up some of the academy graduate’s game time, but it only pushes the latter to keep improving.

Serious questions began to be asked about Tammy Abraham’s future when Chelsea splashed upwards of €50 million to add Timo Werner to their ranks.

The 23-year-old striker proved a rich source of goals for the Blues last season, scoring 18 times across the Premier League and Champions League.

However, it appeared during the summer that he would find game time hard to come by in 2020/21 after the arrival of another prolific marksman who hit 28 goals just in Bundesliga.

Abraham did fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge in the early stages of this season, but he has worked himself back into team lately.

The Chelsea academy graduate is increasingly making his case to become Werner’s permanent partner in crime and seal a place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI, with five strikes and as many assists in 13 appearances so far.

“I have always believed in myself, so I told myself I’ve got to get back in that team, work hard every day and improve,” Abraham told reporter ahed of the Champions League clash against Rennes, via Goal.

“Every time I step out there, I always know there is competition and that I have to be at my best – 100 percent.

“So that’s the way I look at it. We drive one another. You have to put on a performance every single time.”
