The German is experiencing his most challenging period at Stamford Bridge after almost a year in charge.

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has warned Thomas Tuchel that no manager is safe from getting sacked by club owner Roman Abramovich.

Next Wednesday will mark one year since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as head coach. A lot has happened since then. The German has led the club to Champions League and UEFA Super Cup success, as well as an FA Cup final appearance. In total, he has managed 42 wins in 66 games across all competitions (D15 L9).

But while his record speaks for itself, Abramovich has never been famed for his patience. The Blues owner has ruthlessly cast aside many big-name managers in the past, including Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.

Not even the club’s first Champions League title in 2012 could spare Roberto Di Matteo from the same fate six months later.

‘No one is safe and it can happen overnight’

And with an out-of-form Chelsea slipping out of the Premier League title race this season, Malouda feels Tuchel cannot consider himself untouchable.

“No one is safe and it can happen overnight,” the Frenchman told Standard Sport.

“When you are Chelsea manager, you are never in a comfort zone. Everybody expects a lot — the owner and the board as well. There is a standard and you accept it. When you take the job, you accept it.”

He continued: “When you win the Champions League, of course, you have a status, but you cannot go below that. People think that’s what you are going to deliver every season.”

However, Malouda doesn’t think Tuchel is at a crisis point and still retains the support of the squad.

“I think Tuchel knows what he is doing — he is the right man for the situation,” he added. “From what I feel from outside, the players trust him. I don’t see any sign that he is in doubt.

“Of course, he is in the front line because he is the manager, but I think he has got the make-up [of the system of his team] he believes in.”

Chelsea return to action on Sunday to take on Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
