Tottenham and Newcastle United meet in north London for their third fixture of the new Premier League season, each having experienced their fair share of highs and lows already.

Spurs, for instance, suffered a disappointing 1-0 opening-day home defeat to Everton before thrashing Southampton 5-2 away. It’s been a somewhat similar story for their foes Newcastle as well. The Magpies defeated West Ham 2-0 in their opening away before losing 3-0 to Brighton on their own turf.

Plus, with the last five league encounters in the English capital being settled by a one-goal margin, the stage is set for another tight showdown.

Tottenham Form & Stats

Jose Mourinho hasn’t got his squad firing on all cylinders yet, having overseen sluggish wins over Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Skendija in Europa League qualifiers.

On the bright side, besides their 5-2 triumph over Southampton, Spurs have recorded three wins in a row in all competitions. They may not be quite on top form yet, but the positive results continue. The players are also proving their mettle as the matches come thick and fast.

The form of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, who have made a combined 14 goal contributions this season, will be decisive in Spurs’ chances against Newcastle. Of course, Gareth Bale won’t make his second debut until mid-October at the earliest. Fellow Real Madrid loan signing Sergio Reguilon may not feature either amid ankle problems.

Key Team Stats
  • Have won five of last six league games against Newcastle.
  • Haven’t lost back-to-back home league games since January 2019.
  • Under 2.5 goals in their last three home games against Newcastle in all competitions.

Newcastle Form & Stats

The Magpies responded to their 3-0 home defeat to Brighton in perfect fashion by thrashing Morecambe 7-0 in the Carabao Cup midweek. Joelinton (twice), Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Isaac Hayden, and Jamaal Lascelles were all on target.

Steve Bruce will be keen for a similar reaction from his squad for Sunday afternoon’s showdown. The pressure is definitively on to deliver results, with some challenging fixtures against the likes of Manchester United and Wolves coming up shortly.

It doesn’t help either that Newcastle enter such a high-stakes match with several players already nursing injuries. Their strong record in north London does suggest an upset could be possible.

Key Team Stats
  • Won three of their last five league games away to Spurs.
  • Won four of their last seven league games in London. (P7 W4 L3)
