The Tottenham boss backs the forward despite his underwhelming performances in recent weeks.

Harry Kane was close to leaving Tottenham for Manchester City last summer, but he ended up staying at the club. Despite a few good performances for England, Kane has not been able to regain his best form this season.

Kane star has only one goal to his name this season, which is undoubtedly his worst record in recent years. Several pundits blamed Nuno Espirito Santo for Kane’s form at the beginning of the campaign. However, he has not been able to live up to expectations since the arrival of Antonio Conte.

The Italian boss is surprised by Kane’s form but says his judgment about him remains the same.

“If you compare what he did in the past, this is very strange,” said Conte (via Mirror). “But in my experience, before as a player and then as a coach, it happens. I played with important strikers who, for a long period, didn’t score.

“But my judgment about them didn’t change. I wanted to have them in my team also if they don’t score. Because if you have Harry Kane in your team, you feel stronger. Harry is a world-class striker, he’s one of the best I’ve had the pleasure to train.

“For sure Juergen (Klopp, the Liverpool manager) likes to have Mo Salah, but I like to have Harry in my team. He’s an important player for us, and my expectations are very high that he plays well in an important game against Liverpool.”

Tottenham are seventh in the Premier League with 25 points from their 14 games. Like several other Premier League sides, they are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak these days.

Tottenham are set to face Liverpool in their next league game on Sunday. However, the game is in doubt after Liverpool reported a number of positive cases on Friday.
