The 2020/21 football season across Europe is picking up the pace with quite a few exciting fixtures coming up this Sunday.

The new season is already up and running in the Premier League, with the opening day witnessing some entertaining football.

Arsenal started the season with a bang as they soundly beat Fulham. Champions Liverpool avoided a humiliation against newcomers Leeds United in the highest-scoring match of this campaign so far while Leicester City came out with an inspiring victory against West Brom, thanks to Jamie Vardy.

Chelsea’s heavy investment in the summer also started showing results as they secured a comfortable win over Brighton.

All the major leagues across Europe will be in action on the weekend, and here are the three best matches you can watch from each of the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A:

1. Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea will face a big test, probably their biggest of the entire league season, when they welcome Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The Blues have assembled a squad with immense talent this summer as they look to challenge for the Premier League title. The Reds, on the other hand, have almost the same squad as last season but will be aiming to defend their crown.

For the hosts, Timo Werner will be expected to be the difference-maker after he failed to find the back of the net in his debut match. As for the visitors, Mohamed Salah, who scored a hat-trick in his previous match, will be expected to continue his red-hot form.

2. Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad

Real Madrid will enter the 2020/21 season with the intention of retaining their La Liga title. And their intention will be tested hard on the opening matchday when they take on Real Sociedad on Sunday evening.

Real Sociedad, though, will be without their last season’s star player Martin Odegaard. Odegaard cut short his loan spell and returned to Real Madrid earlier this summer as Zinedine Zidane was impressed with the player’s development.

The Basques will be hoping for their first win of the new season after sharing the spoils with Real Valladolid in their opener. Los Blancos, on the other hand, who remained unbeaten in the league post lockdown, will be aiming to continue their form.

2. Juventus vs Sampdoria

The 2019/20 Serie A champions will be aiming to pick up from right where they left off as they prepare to host Sampdoria on Sunday. Andrea Pirlo will also be looking to silence his doubters in his first competitive match as the head coach of Juve.

All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, who marginally missed out on last season’s Serie A top scorer award as well as the European Golden Boot.

The Bianconeri cannot afford to slack this season as the likes of Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Lazio, who have all taken measures to strengthen their squads this summer, will be waiting to capitalize on their mistakes.
