'Thomas Tuchel is just Frank Lampard without the fun'

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has come under some very heavy following the FA Cup final defeat to Leicester City.

Thomas Tuchel’s has been branded ‘Frank Lampard without the fun’ by talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham.

Successive 1-0 defeats to Arsenal and Leicester over the past week have cost Chelsea crucial ground in the Premier League top-four battle and a chance of silverware in the FA Cup final.

And while Tuchel has been praised for turning the club’s fortunes around, his team selections have come under criticism – especially after the FA Cup final.

The German left Tammy Abraham out of the squad and benched his first-choice keeper Edouard Mendy as Youri Tielemans smashed home a second-half goal at Wembley to seal Leicester a 1-0 victory in last weekend’s final.

“Timo Werner was his useless self. I didn’t understand the team selection,” said Durham on talkSPORT.

“[Marcos] Alonso, what’s he doing on the pitch? Kepa, what’s he doing in goal? Mendy saves that [Tielemans] shot by the way.

“What he was doing with Reece James and [Cesar] Azpilicueta I’ll never know. [Hakim] Ziyech was the semi-final hero, but that doesn’t mean he has to play in the final.

“Did he even watch the final last year? [Christian] Pulisic was winning it for Chelsea before he got injured. It was very strange from Tuchel.

“I saw an article today saying Tuchel has been brilliant at Chelsea, well has he?

“When it comes to the crunch he might have made them better, but has he been brilliant? I don’t think so.”

Bold words indeed from Durham, who also claims Tuchel’s selections were ‘sackable’.

“He hasn’t sorted his keepers and up front their very wasteful,” added Durham.

“He discarded [Tammy] Abraham who wasn’t even on the bench. The midfield, Youri Tielemans ran them ragged whilst Kante was anonymous.

“Thiago Silva was laughing with Arsenal players last week after the defeat and he turned his back for the Leicester goal. There’s a lot wrong with Tuchel and he hasn’t corrected it.”

“His team selection was pure arrogance and sackable arrogance. At this moment, he’s just Frank Lampard without the fun.”
