There have been speculations that CR7 can return to the Portuguese side as soon as this summer.

Sporting Lisbon director Hugo Viana has responded to reports linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a move away from Manchester United.

Ronaldo started his professional career at Sporting before rising up to stardom at United. A year after his sensational return to Old Trafford, there are reports that he might end up joining Sporting ahead of the next season.

However, Viana says United needs to keep Ronaldo and rebuild their squad around him.

Asked whether his side will re-sign Ronaldo this summer, he replied: “I think not now – I don’t think it is possible, but you never know.

“He can decide where he goes, but you never know the future. I don’t want to talk about that, but he has another year on his contract so whatever he decides, let’s see.

“It is time for Man Utd to stabilize, to create a good spirit inside the club. I think it is not what’s happening now, but there it always time to rebuild. With Cristiano, of course, there is a player who scores 25 goals per season.”

Chelsea have also emerged as a potential destination for Ronaldo in recent days.

According to 90min, there have been direct negotiations between Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes and the Blues’ new owner Todd Boehly. However, United are still confident they will have CR7 in their squad for the next season.
