Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to be drawn into mind games as he had nothing but kind words for Jose Mourinho ahead of the face-off.

Despite Brighton showing much more attacking intent throughout the match, the result went in Manchester United’s favor during the most recent Premier League clash between the two sides.

The hosts hit the post five times but the visitors took advantage of a very late penalty to secure a 3-2 victory.

After the match, Solskjaer aimed a cheeky comment at Jose Mourinho saying: “You have to be happy Jose isn’t here to measure the goalposts, it might have been a smaller goal!”

Mourinho responded by saying Solskjaer would prefer a “22-yard-box”, implying that his former side are too reliant on penalties.

Ahead of the Man United’s upcoming Premier League meeting with Tottenham, Solskjaer did not allow himself to get provoked to continue the back and forth sneers. Instead, he declared his admiration for Mourinho.

“We are in strange times at the moment and sometimes you’ve got to have a bit of fun as well,” the Norwegian said, as per MEN.

“It was a couple of innocent comments. For me, Jose’s a very charismatic coach and manager and I’ve enjoyed talking to him, I’ve enjoyed watching him. He’s a winner.

“But I’m not one of these that really go into all these mind games. I’ve got ultimate respect for him as a coach and, of course, his results and everything he has given football.”
