The decorated defender put in a solid shift in his first appearance for the Red Devils, helping them get a clean sheet in the process.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left impressed by Raphael Varane in his debut for Manchester United, saying the center-back put in a “top, top performance” against Wolves.

Varane started alongside Harry Maguire in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

With his first-rate positioning, the former Real Madrid looked at ease the entire match. He made several key clearances and produced a vital interception to shut down a threatning attack by Raul Jimenez.

The Frenchman also got an assist as he picked out Mason Greenwood, who then made a darting run forward to score the winning goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.

“This was ‘welcome to the Premier League’ – tempo, hustle bustle, tackle, have to defend counter attacks,” Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference.

“Top, top performance. He’s good in the air, he’s so composed on the ball and he’s so experienced and nothing phases him.

“He was good in the dressing room before the game, half-time and so I’m delighted with his performance. I thought he showed his class.”
