The struggling Blues striker has now failed to score in his last eight appearances across all competitions.

Joe Cole has advised Frank Lampard to drop Timo Werner from his line-up after the striker drew another blank on Tuesday.

The €53m summer signing has eight goals to his name from 20 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season. But an eight-match goalless run has raised concerns over his form in the attack.

Werner again failed to make an impact at Wolves on Tuesday night as the Blues fell to a 2-1 loss, making it back-to-back defeats for the first time since August.

“I think Werner, when he comes in off that left, he’s very, very dangerous,” former Chelsea winger Cole told Amazon Prime Video as quoted on Metro.

“I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he’s a young striker and he will do that. I’ve got no doubts he’ll be a top player for Chelsea but there’s options now and he [Lampard] needs to move it around.

“[Hakim] Ziyech and [Callum] Hudson-Odoi to come back in, freshen it up at some point. Take Werner out, bring him back in.

“It’s a marathon to win a title usually, and certainly this year. You’ve got to use your whole squad.

“So Werner maybe come out, bring the other lads back in.”
