The Shakhtar coach plans on doing a double over the record winners of the competition but is well aware of the laborious nature of the task.

Real Madrid were put to the sword when they earlier welcomed Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League Group B matchday 1.

The Ukrainian outfit baffled their Spanish hosts as they put three past them in quick successions in the first half. They conceded twice in the second half but managed to come out on top with a 3-2 result.

With a positive result against one of the strongest teams in the competition, their hopes of qualification to the Last 16 had ignited.

After getting battered by Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0 and 4-0 in home and away legs respectively, however, that hope quickly subsided.

Shakhtar, who sit third with four points, welcome Real Madrid, who rank just above them with seven points, up next for the return leg and a win would boost their chances of going past the group stages of the competition.

“It is a very complex job that we have ahead of us, but we have our hopes,” head coach Luis Castro told in his pre-match press conference, via Marca.

“We always want to present a strategy that can cause surprise, that Madrid can fail with and that we can be successful. The strategy will not be the same as the one we presented in Madrid, we will have some changes in the strategy to think clearly about winning the game.

“We really think that we have the capacity to do it one more time, to beat Madrid.”
