The Spaniard backed his PSG teammate Lionel Messi to win the prestigious award.

Four months after joining PSG, Ramos finally made his debut for the club on Sunday. The Spanish defender started against Saint-Etienne as the Parisians won 3-1.

Having a remarkable history of rivalry, Ramos and Lionel Messi played for the first time as teammates. The pair have played in several El Clasico battles during their long spells as the Real Madrid and Barcelona captains.

Messi provided three assists as PSG came back from behind to bag another three points in Ligue 1. In a post-match interview, Ramos spoke about Messi’s form.

“He’s in good shape, and I think he’s the kind of player who really makes a difference,” Ramos told ESPN.

“He’s a unique player and it’s a privilege to have him in the team.

“I think that bit by bit, each of us is going to bring our own quality to make Paris Saint-Germain even greater and achieve the things we want to achieve.”

Asked if he wants Messi to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or, Ramos responded: “Yes, of course I’m going to defend the guys in my team,” Ramos said.

“I wish him all the luck in the world.”

Messi is among the top favourites to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or. His closest rival is Robert Lewandowski, with Karim Benzema and Jorginho being the next candidates, according to bookmakers.

France Football will hand out the award during an official ceremony on Monday night. You can watch the live stream of the event on FC Bayern’s official Twitter account from 8:30 CET.
