Los Blancos carry a slight advantage into the last-16 second leg, having claimed a slender victory in the first leg back in Italy.

Zinedine Zidane insists Real Madrid must “start from scratch” against Atalanta as he warns his side to avoid complacency.

Real Madrid welcome Atalanta to the Alfredo Di Stefano on Tuesday night for the return leg of the Champions League Round of 16 clash.

The Spanish titleholders were able to get a crucial away goal in the reverse fixture, courtesy of a wonderful right-footed strike from Ferland Mendy late in the match.

Los Blancos are the record winners of this competition but have struggled to impose themselves in the last couple of years, having lost to Ajax and Manchester City at this stage in each of the previous two campaigns.

And therefore, despite having one leg in the quarter-finals, a cautious Zidane wants his team to forget about the previous result.

“We have to start from scratch,” the Frenchman said in his pre-match press conference, via Marca.

“We haven’t done anything. We have to show a lot of things to get through the tie. We mustn’t think that with the first leg we’ve done it, of course not.

“It’s a final. It’s a second leg and to go through we have to play a great game. They are an opponent with a lot of strengths.”
