The Ballon d’Or winner will miss his side’s upcoming game with an injury.

Real Madrid have confirmed Karim Benzema has suffered muscle fatigue ahead of their upcoming match against Sevilla.

Benzema scored for the Blancos in their 3-0 win over Elche, displaying a statement performance a day after winning the Ballon d’Or.

However, he won’t be able to play for Real Madrid in their upcoming matches against Sevilla and RB Leipzig.

A statement issued from the club reads: “After the tests carried out today on our player Karim Benzema by the Real Madrid Medical Services, muscle fatigue has been detected in the quadriceps of his left leg.”

Benzema hopes to return to action in Real Madrid’s league game against Girona on October 30.

Rodrygo is the first in line to replace the Frenchman in Real Madrid’s attacking line. However, Carlo Ancelotti might decide to start Eden Hazard or Marco Asensio, who’ve both been desperate for game time this season.

Asensio came in for Real Madrid in the 80th minute of their win over Elche on Wednesday. The Spaniard went on to score his side’s third goal only nine minutes later.

With the World Cup being days away, Asensio hopes to find a place in Spain’s squad by getting more playing time at Real Madrid.
