The World Cup winner has long been on the radar of the La Liga champions as the club aims to keep alive their ‘Galactico’ policy.

Real Madrid’s interest in Kylian Mbappe dates back to his early days when the player had still not achieved the superstar status that he has now.

The Frenchman was being courted by the Spanish giants as a 16-year-old when he started showing early signs of promise while at AS Monaco.

He has gone a long way since then – securing a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain, winning multiple Ligue 1 titles, leading France to World Cup glory – and has only become more irresistible for Los Blancos.

The 21-year-old, who has netted nine times in 11 games already this season, appears the ideal candidate to assume the responsibility that once Cristiano Ronaldo so elegantly did and become the talisman of a struggling Real Madrid team.

A man who held the presidential office at Santiago Bernabeu for three years holds the view that the club must secure the services of Mbappe in the summer of 2021.

“Without a doubt, Mbappe is the player most desired by all and it would be great news for our team,” Roman Calderon told Goal.

“He is a player who, being very young, has already managed to attract the attention of all the fans, and presumably his best moment is yet to come.

“What the big clubs always need is to have the best players in their primes, regardless of their age.”
