Real Madrid had one more game in 2020 to play against Granada at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium. Zinedine Zidane’s squad wanted to close the year with a victory that could leave them at the top of the table in the Spanish La Liga. As we all expected, Granada didn’t make things easy for Los Blancos throughout the 90 minutes. Casemiro was the one who scored the opener for Real until the second half of the game.
In the first half, there was a clear penalty that wasn’t awarded for Granada committed by Casemiro himself. The Brazilian midfielder ceased that opportunity to remain on the pitch by scoring one of the goals for his team. Marco Asensio assisted him on the goal after taking Rodrygo’s place when he got injured. Granada attempted to score the equalizer but they weren’t able to get the goal despite their many efforts.
Benzema scores again for Real Madrid.
The final minutes were good enough for Los Blancos to protect their result against a rough Granada side. Zidane wanted to give Eden Hazard some minutes after recovering from his injury but only if the game was easy enough for him to play. Since the moment wasn’t good for him to risk it, Eden remained on the bench.
Near the end of the match, Karim Benzema scored the second goal from outside the box that gave Real Madrid the final 2-0 result. With this victory, Zidane and his players end the year in La Liga’s top spot. Next up, Real Madrid will visit Elche in the last match they have to play during 2020.
