The Spanish manager is on the verge of starting his first job since leaving Camp Nou.
Former Barcelona manager Quique Setien has agreed to join Saudi Arabian team Al-Shabab as their new manager.
The Spaniard had spent managerial spells at Racing Santander, Lugo and Real Betis before taking charge at Barcelona in 2020.
After replacing Ernesto Valverde mid-season, Setien registered 16 victories, four draws and five defeats at Camp Nou. However, the club decided to sack him after a humiliating defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Since then, Setien has remained out of job despite being occasionally linked with Spanish clubs. But, he is now on the verge of starting a new chapter in his managerial career.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Setien has reached an agreement with Al-Shabab to join them on a two-season deal. The Spanish outlet claims Setien and his four-man staff will earn €3.7m per season at the Saudi Arabian side.
Al-Shabab finished fourth in the Saudi Pro League’s 2021-22 campaign. The club have also qualified for the AFC Champions League’s round of 16.
A short stint in Equatorial Guinea has been Setien’s only coaching experience outside Spain. However, familiar faces at Al-Shabab might help him settle quickly in the middle-east club.
Former Sevilla star Ever Banega and ex-Betis player Alfred N’Diaye both play for Al-Shabab, looking to play under the former Barcelona boss.
