A sixth Premier League fixture for this weekend’s action has been canceled.

The Premier League has postponed Saturday afternoon’s fixture between Aston Villa and Burnley.

Steven Gerrard’s side were scheduled to take on Sean Dyche’s Burnley squad at Villa Park. However, on the day of the match, players from the home team tested positive for COVID-19.

Villa later made a request to the Premier League board to postpone the game due to a lack of available players, which the English league has now accepted.

“Due to more positive cases in the Aston Villa squad today, the Premier League Board has regrettably had to postpone the club’s home fixture against Burnley, due to kick-off at 3 pm (BST) this afternoon,” read a statement.

“After reviewing all the new information provided by Aston Villa this morning and receiving separate medical advice, the board approved the request as a result of the club not having enough players to field a team.

“This decision was based on the number of COVID-19 cases, injuries and illness.”
