The PSG manager has instructed the French forward on how to match or succeed the two undisputed greats of the modern game.

Kylian Mbappe “lacks nothing but time” to match the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the pinnacle of the beautiful game, according to Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino already considers Mbappe as one of the current best players and says he must gradually “flesh out his CV” in order to forge his status as the greatest footballer of the current generation.

The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form yet again this season. With 18 goals in 23 games, he is the Ligue 1 top scorer and one of the frontrunners for the 2020 European Golden Boot.

Despite still being in the early stages of his career, the Frenchman boasts a remarkable resume with nine major honors – including a World Cup – and a host of individual accolades – Golden Boy, FIFA World Cup Best Young Player, French Player of the Year, among others.

“He has the potential. He lacks nothing but time,” Pochettino replied when asked by AFP whether Mbappe could exceed Messi and Ronaldo.

“We cannot speed up the process. I think he’s already among the best in the world.

“It will take time for him to flesh out his CV, to get the recognition he deserves and will get.”
