The Serie A leaders came close to suffering their first defeat of the campaign as they went behind twice in Wednesday’s fixture.

Stefano Pioli complains that his team lets in ‘too many goals’ following AC Milan’s 2-2 stalemate against Genoa.

The visitors had their first scare of the night when Mattia Destro netted moments after the start of the second half but they produced a reply not long after through Davide Calabria.

Right at the hour-mark, they went behind once again as Destro scored his second. It took until very late in the game for the Rossoneri to find the equalizer with Pierre Kalulu, in the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Theo Hernandez, Simon Kjaer, and Ismael Bennacer, rescuing his side at minute 87 with a close-range finish.

Milan remain at the top of the table but now have just a single-point cushion over second-placed Inter Milan.

“It’s a draw in a complicated game, on a difficult pitch,” Pioli told DAZN after the match, via Football Italia.

“We could take the lead in the first half and the match would have changed tactically. We gave it all and we took an important result.

“We allowed two goals without conceding much. In general, we are conceding too many goals. It was a tough game, the pitch didn’t allow us to be precise technically, we tried to win it till the end, unluckily we didn’t make it.”
