Thomas Partey has expressed his gratitude to the fans of the club he was part of for 8 years after completing his move to Arsenal.

In what came as a shock to Atletico Madrid fans, and perhaps a surprise to even Arsenal fans, Thomas Partey completed his switch to the Premier League on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.

The defensive midfielder signed for Atleti as an 18-year old in 2011 and was drafted to the club’s reserve team.

Rising through the ranks, and after a couple of loan spells, he earned a promotion to Los Rojiblancos’ first-team in 2015.

Ever since, he remained an integral part of Diego Simeone’s team, helping them to Europa League, UEFA Super Cup triumphs, and guiding the side to a Champions League final.

The Ghanaian recently took his leave from the Wanda Metropolitano as he opted for a new challenge abroad.

“Dear Atletico fans, today I only have words of gratitude with you. For several years now, Atletico Madrid has been my home and a part of this family will always be with me,” Partey wrote in an Instagram post after joining Arsenal.

“I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me from day one, but above all, I want to thank you, this wonderful hobby that I accepted from the first moment and that has shown that it is both in good times and in bad times and you never truly stop believing.

“Atletico Madrid is not just a club, it is a family. Thank you.”
