Michael Owen has raised his doubts on whether Cavani will excel at Manchester United despite the player getting his first goal for the club.

Cavani might have scored his first goal for United in their 3-1 win against Everton but Michael Owen still has his doubts about the forward.

The Uruguay striker had made a number of promising substitute appearances after several months out.

He will now be looking to challenge for a starting place with Anthony Martial and Odion Ighalo.

However, former United forward Owen admits that he has concerns about Cavani, despite his assured finish over the weekend.

Owen admits that the 33-year-old would have been a real weapon in a Sir Alex Ferguson United team.

However, the United legend doesn’t think the club’s current setup suits the ex-PSG man.

“In terms of the finish, I like players that actually place the ball rather than just smacking it,” Owen said as quoted by the Mirror.

“He opens his body up, pretends he’s going to the far corner, gives the goalkeeper the eyes and whips his leg over and knocks it into the near post. And Cavani is off and running.”

“Some players are brilliant regardless, some players don’t necessarily need crosses into the box because they can make an impact regardless.”.

“I’ve watched this lad for years and years, there’s not many players I’ve seen with movement like him in the box when the ball is coming in.”

“Manchester United of old, he would have scored hundreds of goals in those teams. Now, are they going to get lots of crosses into the box and cut-backs that he preys on?”

“It’s a very good signing, I just hope he gets the ammunition to fire the bullets.”

Elsewhere, another ex-United man still believes the club made the wrong choice in signing Cavani.
