After the latest PCR testing round, Juventus can finally confirm one of their veterans recovered from Covid-19 after getting infected.

Several Juventus players have been infected with Covid-19 over the last year, but Leonardo Bonucci’s absence probably hit them the hardest. Juventus has been going through a difficult period in Serie A lately and they also got eliminated from the Champions League. Although Bonucci was still around when that happened, the club lost him at the beginning of April. It took him a total of 12 days to completely expel the virus from his system.

The club finally recovered him after today’s test came out negative. In an official statement through their website, this is what Juventus published: “Leonardo Bonucci carried out, as per protocol, two controls with a molecular test (swab) for Covid-19 with negative results. The player has therefore recovered and is no longer subjected to the isolation regime and will join the team tomorrow afternoon at the JTC.”

When will Bonucci return to play?

The plan is for Andrea Pirlo to get Bonucci back in practice tomorrow and assess if he is ready to play next weekend. In their next match, the Bianconeri have to travel to Bergamo in order to face Atalanta in a crucial Serie A match. Losing against Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad can mean they might lose the third position against their next rival. Juventus simply can’t afford to lose this spot because it’s a direct Champions League ticket.

Leonardo Bonucci has been one of the most important defenders at the club and they need his talents to finish the season. Fortunately for them, he might be able to play next weekend. If all goes well, he will be part of the squad ahead of the trip to Bergamo. This news also means Cristiano Ronaldo will have more chances to win games in the final part of the season.
