Martin Odegaard has thanked the Real Sociedad fans for their immense support before embarking on a new journey.

On Tuesday, reports started circulating in the Spanish media claiming that Martin Odegaard is set to cut-short his two-year loan spell at Real Sociedad and return to Real Madrid.

It was suggested that Real Madrid’s decision to call back the player was prompted by their disappointing Champions League elimination.

Zinedine Zidane felt a lack of creativity in his midfield, and bringing back Odegaard, who was one of the most productive players in the 2019/20 La Liga season, became a necessity.

Real Sociedad earlier announced that he will be departing the club via a social media post.

The Norwegian has now doubled down on that announcement with a heartfelt farewell message to the fans on the club’s official YouTube channel.

“I want to send you this message of goodbye, but also of thanks for what has been an unforgettable year for me,” said Odegaard.

“I lived some great moments with this shirt – my presentation, my first goal in the Reale Arena, the qualification for the Copa del Rey final and the Europa League, and much more.

“I’ll never forget all the support you showed me in the stadium and day to day. It’s time to say goodbye, but here you have a Txuri Urdin for life.”
