The left-back was asked to set up a team from a list of players he has played alongside during his career so far.

Luke Shaw has left out the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Robin van Persie from his dream five-a-side team consisting only of players he has played alongside.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, with whom he played briefly, also missed out from the England international’s team and so does Harry Kane.

Shaw, who joined Manchester United from Southampton for a reported £30 million (€35m) back in 2014, has worked with some of the biggest names in the sport in his decade-long senior career so far.

“For my keeper… [pauses]… this is tough because I’ve played with some very good keepers. I’m going to stick with David [De Gea] in goal,” he said in a Q&A for the club’s official website.

“In defense [pauses] this is really hard! [Laughs] I’ve got to put myself in.

“I’ll have two in midfield – [Wayne] Rooney and [Paul] Pogba and then one left… a striker. Of course, I played with [Robin] van Persie and he was an unbelievable finisher, but I think I’m going to say, because he’s always on the left side with me and I like having him in front of me, I think I’m going to have to say Rashy.”
