Ralf Rangnick believes Julian Nagelsmann ‘could do Real Madrid’ one day as head coach after leading RB Leipzig to the Champions League semi-finals.

Nagelsmann’s glowering reputation has grown upon an impressive first season in charge of Leipzig, securing a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and a semi-final spot in the Champions League.

The 33-year-old, who first became a head coach at Hoffenheim in February 2016, already has bags of experience under his belt and has previously attracted interest outside Europe.

Now his predecessor Ralf Rangnick, who recently vacated his role as head of Red Bull’s international relations and scouting department, believes Nagelsmann can reach the pinnacle of football.

He told Bild: “I believe he could do Real Madrid.

“I think it’s very possible that he could go to a better or even bigger club [than Leipzig], if he wants that.”

Incidentally, Nagelsmann claimed in 2018 that he turned down the opportunity to become Real Madrid manager while at Hoffenheim.

“Madrid called me,” he told 11Freunde back in 2018.

“Who would hang up the telephone? Universe Football Club doesn’t exist, so there’s no bigger club than Real Madrid.

“But I am 31 years old, I will have another chance. I didn’t want to move countries.”
