The Bayern attacker, who has been missing international action despite maintaining fine form, is open to rejoining Die Mannschaft.

A 6-0 humbling by Spain on Tuesday marked the end of Germany’s 2020 Nations League campaign, and Joachim Low has come under heavy scrutiny since then.

Apart from the fact that it was the team’s worst competitive defeat in 89 years, it is his team selection due to which the manager’s position in the dugout has been called into question.

Thomas Muller, Mats Hummels, and Jerome Boateng – three players who were elemental to Germany’s World Cup glory in 2014 – were all left out Low’s squad for the Nations League group stages.

Calls have been made for the Bayern Munich man’s reinstatement to the national team while also for a change in management.

The 31-year-old midfielder made a century of appearances for Germany before being dropped, and he is ready to resume his international career.

“That certainly hurts,” Muller reflected on the emotional pain he suffered after his nation’s insulting loss to Spain, speaking to Sky Germany, via Goal.

“Of course, you suffer for your team-mates in the club, with the players you know, with whom you have played – and also a little with the spectator.

“As I said, none of us (himself, Boateng, and Hummels) has resigned.”
