Various reports have suggested the Gunners may splash the cash on winter signings after Gabriel Jesus’ World Cup injury.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said the club has been ‘very active’ in seeking potential signings for the January transfer window.

The Premier League leaders enter the second half of the season hoping to carry on where they left off before the World Cup, with a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester City to maintain in the standings.

Their hopes suffered a blow, however, when Gabriel Jesus sustained a knee injury in Qatar. The Brazilian striker has had surgery, but he may need three months to regain his fitness. His absence has fueled rumors that Arsenal could sign another striker next month.

“We are looking, and we are very active looking at the possibilities,” Arteta said after the club defeated AC Milan 2-1 at full-time and 4-3 on penalties in a friendly in Dubai on Tuesday.

“If we can find the players that can strengthen the team, we will try.

“There are a few [from the World Cup] for sure. A few national teams, what some of the national teams are doing is very interesting, and it shows where the game is and how the game is evolving. Any individual player, I will keep it to myself.”

Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign on December 26 in a Boxing Day clash with fellow London side West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.
