The Red Devils have played without the key midfielder for the past two months.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed Christian Eriksen could return to action for Manchester United against Everton.

The Danish star picked up an ankle injury in Man Utd’s FA Cup win over Reading in January. His absence was a major blow to Erik ten Hag’s plans but didn’t stop them from claiming the EFL Cup in February.

The Red Devils ended a three-game winless run in the Premier League by beating Brentford on Wednesday. Eriksen’s return will provide them with another boost as they prepare to take on Everton this weekend.

“We will see. We see it from day to day,” Ten Hag responded when asked about Eriksen’s chance of playing against Everton.

“He is progressing. He is only back in team training this week. We have two sessions. After that, we will decide if he is back in the squad again.”

Eriksen will link up with Casemiro in Man Utd’s midfield line upon his return. Such a decision by Ten Hag could limit the playing time of Marcel Sabitzer, who was signed from Bayern Munich on a loan deal to cover for Eriksen’s absence.

According to widespread reports in German media, the Austrian star is keen to stay in the Premier League after the expiration of his six-month loan contract.

“They’re two very important players for us,” Ten Hag said of Casemiro and Eriksen. “Don’t get me wrong, but we have a good squad.

“[Against Brentford] there was brilliant midfield occupation with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. Marcel Sabitzer, in his role, was very good.”
