The Red Devils are about to start a new era under Erik ten Hag next season.

Bruno Fernandes has admitted Manchester United might need more than a season to regain their best form.

The Red Devils are in the process of rebuilding their squad under the newly-appointed Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager takes over a United side that registered their lowest point tally since 1990 last season.

Almost every player underperformed last season as the Red Devils struggled for both attacking and defensive consistency. Fernandes remained a key figure in United’s midfield, maintaining a decent form despite his side’s problems.

The Portugal international went on to sign a new contract at Old Trafford in April. He is positive the club has a bright future ahead of them but insists they will need time to get there.

“I believe that the club will be back at the place it deserves to be, that’s why I signed a new deal,” he said. “For me, I had long talks with the club, not about the contract but about the future of the club, because I want to be part of that if I stay.

“The club wants to win, the club wants to build something. From what they have told me, I believe that the club will be back to its standards. [It] could probably not be next season at the standard that we want, but I think step by step, the club will be back in the glorious days.”
