The Red Devils are leading the title race midway through the campaign for the first time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Manchester United still need to improve are not getting carried away by their Premier League lead, says captain Harry Maguire.

United have surpassed expectations this season having left the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool behind in the race for the 2020-21 edition of the English top-flight crown.

The Red Devils boast a remarkable form in the league, remaining unbeaten in the last 13 fixtures with their last defeat coming against Arsenal back on November 1st.

There had been doubts whether the team has what is takes to go on a title charge early in the campaign, and Maguire is pleased to see those doubters silenced.

The club captain told MUTV: “We don’t speak about the table. We speak about the improvement.

“Two years ago, you wouldn’t say that we would challenge at the top of the table, for sure. We as players believe that we can; we expect that we can. This club expects to be challenging for the best trophies.

“It’s all about improvement, it’s all about improving each game, each training session. We need to improve on things.

“It’s nice to have the points tally but there’s a long way to go and a long way for us to make sure we’re still there at the end of the season.

“We don’t look at the table. It’s one game at a time. Another big game on Sunday and we’re looking forward to that now.”

Manchester United play host to Liverpool up next in the FA Cup 4th round on Sunday.
