Portugal will face Ireland this week in a must-win encounter in the World Cup qualifiers, but one of their stars will not be able to play due to an injury.

Portugal boss Fernando Santos informed regarding Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva’s injury ahead of their World Cup qualifiers match against Ireland.

According to a report from Record, the Man City star did not attend training sessions with Selecao on Monday with complaints about muscle issues. Later on Tuesday too, Bernardo was not seen practising with the squad.

Santos and men require all three points against Ireland if they wish to qualify for the global tournament next year. Though the head coach told that Bernardo might be available for the final game against Serbia.

“I don’t count on him,” Santos said on Wednesday. “He has muscle complaints. I don’t think he has the conditions to go to this game. We think he will be okay for Serbia.”

“He arrived tired, complaining. He has many games on him, and couldn’t go to training. But he’s recovering well and we hope and we believe he’ll be able to play here with Serbia.”

“He won’t even travel with us. It doesn’t make sense because we don’t consider him to be at 100 per cent. It wouldn’t be the best condition for the treatment he’s undergoing. He’ll stay here so that he can start to join the group,” Santos added.
