Manchester United have come under their fair bit of scrutiny of late, but Harry Maguire feels it’s mostly out of jealousy.

Maguire believes criticism is part of the package for a club of the stature of Manchester United and claimed ‘people don’t want us to do well’.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ended a two-match winless run on Saturday by beating Everton 3-1. But while it was an impressive result, they still sit in the lower half of the Premier League standings in 14th-place.

It’s United’s worst start to a league campaign in three decades, although Maguire believes the criticism has been overstated.

“At this club one thing I’ve noticed in my time here – I’ve been here a year and a half – is we are the most talked-about club in the world,” the Red Devils skipper told MUTV.

“Why? Because we are the biggest club in the world. People don’t want us to do well. Why? Probably because of the success we’ve had in the past.

“We have to live up to that, we have to react to it and don’t let the negatives get into our bubble inside the training ground. Sometimes it is difficult for the lads.”

Maguire and United will next face West Brom at home in the Premier League on November 21 once the international break ends.
