The Real Madrid center-back went down in the penalty box to score a decisive goal in the first Classico against Barcelona.

Sergio Ramos expressed his thoughts about the penalty incident following Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory against Barcelona in La Liga.

The halftime score at Camp Nou reflected goals from Federico Valverde and Ansu Fati to keep the score at 1-1. Though, in the second half, Ramos fell down during a Madrid corner kick.

Evidently, the Los Blancos captain made a rather funny attempt to win the penalty. The VAR, however, noticed the shirt-pull from Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet.

Subsequently, the match official rewarded a spot-kick and Ramos made no mistake to tuck it in. Following the captain’s goal, Luka Modric ended the game in spectacular fashion by scoring in the 90th minute.

On the other side of the pitch, Barca players expressed their frustration regarding the penalty incident.

Although, Ramos denied any signs of controversy from the VAR team.

“The penalty is very clear,” he said. “For me, the action is clear. The referees and the VAR are there to help us.”

A captain’s job.

Moreover, this win at Camp Nou had special significance following defeats to Cadiz and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Furthermore, Ramos played only 45 minutes throughout all those games due to knee issues.

“It was a week in which to vindicate ourselves and a Clasico is a unique match in the world,” he said. “We faced it with great enthusiasm.

“You always have to be united and you cannot regret bad streaks or previous results.

“We are happy with the three points, and emotionally it is very good for the next matches. It is always very rewarding to win at our eternal rivals.”

He added: “A week of crisis at Real Madrid is two games. We have to keep adding three points at a time and keep the good energy of the group.

“There are points that taste like glory – that is how it is here at our eternal rivals’ stadium. This team has won a lot and we want to continue doing so.”

Clearly, the Spaniard’s involvement in the game was more than any other player on the field.

He took four shots and three on target along with three tackles, four clearances, three interceptions, and a block.
