AFCON 2021 will kickstart on January 9 next year, and Lyon star hopes that his nation Cameroon reaches great heights during this time.

Lyon striker Karl Toko Ekambi is hopeful that his nation Cameroon will survive for a longer period in the upcoming African Cup of Nations.

Cameroon is the hosting country for AFCON this time, and Ekambi says that his side will be ready to ignite passion despite being under pressure. They will face Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde in Group A.

“Cameroon is always under pressure, it is a great country for African football. Hosting the tournament does not add further pressure. I would rather say it is a reason to be proud because we are under pressure anyway. There are always expectations on Cameroon, so we always play under pressure,” said Karl Toko Ekambi.

Last time out, the Indomitable Lions could not stand for much time in AFCON, as they lost to Nigeria in the round of 16.

But Ekambi believes that Cameroon have evolved over the years along with other nations of the vast continent.

“I think it is a difficult group. We saw during the qualifying matches or Cup matches that there are no easy matches in Africa now. Every country has players playing in big leagues, in Europe. So there are no easy matches in the Africa Cup of Nations, especially in a tournament played at home,” he added.

The last time Cameroon won the tournament was back in 2017.
