Spain managed a last gasp draw against Germany, with Sergio Busquets giving a good account of his abilities despite concerns about his age.

A goalless first half, there was action after the break. New Chelsea forward, Timo Werner got on the scoreboard with an assist from Robin Gosens. Spain needed an extra-time effort from Jose Gaya to share the spoils.

Sergio Busquets at his assured best in the fixture, rolling back the years to give a fine performance. Spain manager Luis Enrique was pleased with the Barcelona man’s efforts and hailed his no-nonsense approach.

“Busi is a player who does not need to speak much because his presence imposes respect,” Goal quoted Luis Enrique.

“But he is not here for what he contributes off the field, he is here for what he contributes on the pitch.

“He makes better or worse games, but he is one of the most important footballers of the national team.”

Thiago Alcantara also had a great showing against Germany. The Bayern Munich star completed 97 of 104 passes in the Nations League match. Enrique was equally pleased with his performance and gave a glowing assessment.

“It’s a joy to see how he positions himself, how he manages the team,” said Busquets’ ex-Barca colleague.

“There is his presence, his game, his numbers for years … to improve as a midfielder you must pay attention to him.”

Alcantara has been tipped to move away from Allianz Arena. English giants, Liverpool and Manchester United are vying for his signature.
