The Reds are one point behind Man City ahead of the Premier League’s final matchday.

Liverpool defeated Southampton 2-1 to close the gap to Manchester City to one point at the top of the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp made nine changes to his lineup, but his side managed to come back from behind to keep their title hopes alive.

On Sunday, Liverpool and Man City will face their opponents in the league’s final matchday. The Reds will host Wolves at Anfield while City meet Aston Villa.

Speaking after the Southampton win, Klopp admitted it is unlikely that his side will lift the trophy on Sunday.

He told BBC“Of course it is unlikely because City play at home against Aston Villa, who play only on Thursday.

“It will be tough against Burnley, they fight for survival.”

He added: “But it is football. I think the time when City became champion [in 2019] it was because of 11 millimetres. If someone wants us to be champion then we have to win first and Aston Villa need to get a point at City.”

Liverpool are the only team in the Premier League that have not lost a game in 2022. The Reds have already won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup titles this season while reaching the Champions League final.

Let’s see if Klopp’s men can take another step toward the quadruple by leapfrogging City from the top spot on the final day of the league campaign.
