Liverpool have announced Trent Alexander-Arnold has started self-isolating.

Premier League postponed Liverpool’s Carabao Cup game against Arsenal on Thursday due to Covid cases at the Merseyside club. The Reds returned to action on Sunday as they defeated Shrewsbury Town with a 4-1 result in FA Cup.

However, the Reds have now confirmed a new COVID-19 case in their squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold has tested positive for the virus. However, he might still come back in time for the Reds’ match against Arsenal on Thursday.

Liverpool, however, saw their manager Jurgen Klopp return to the bench against Shrewsbury. The German boss had missed his side’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea last week. In addition to Klopp, Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino also made their comebacks after contracting the virus.

In a post-match interview, Klopp revealed nearly all of the positive tests before the Arsenal game were false positives.

“We thought we had a proper outbreak last week and it showed up we had a lot of false positives actually,” Klopp said in his post-match press conference.

“But still the rules are like they are and so all these players who are false positive couldn’t play today or we decided not to play them for whatever.

“So the only real positive case from the team was Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives.”
