The Cameroonian center-back signaled to the bench for medical attention after pulling up while attempting to clear away the ball.

Joel Matip picked up a knock in the Premier League outing against West Brom, adding to Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis.

Matip helped his side take the lead at Anfield in the opening 12 minutes of the match as he set up Sadio Mane by spraying the ball over the top of the opposition defense.

The 29-year-old, however, was replaced by Rhys Williams with 15 minutes gone in the second half, when unable to continue even after receiving medical treatment on the pitch.

He suffered what early indications suggest is a groin injury while attempting to clear a Callum Robinson cross.

The former Schalke player was making only his eighth appearance of the Premier League this season and had returned to training just over a week ago after recovering from a fitness issue.

Liverpool are already without Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez with the former to stay out of action until April and the latter expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Fabinho will be left as the only senior center-back available for selection for Jurgen Klopp if Matip’s injury proves to be a serious one.
