The Bayern Munich hitman has joined Ronaldo and Messi in an exclusive Champions League milestone.

Robert Lewandowski has become one of just three players to score 30 or more goals in the Champions League knockout stages.

The Poland international reached the milestone on Tuesday night. He scored the opening goal of Bayern Munich’s quarter-final second leg against Villarreal. It was the 30th time he had netted in the knockout stage of the competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the only other players to have achieved this feat.

Chukwueze ends Bayern Munich’s bid for European glory

Unfortunately for Lewandowski, it wasn’t enough. Samuel Chukwueze scored for Villarreal in the 88th-minute. The Nigerian’s goal leveled the second leg at 1-1 in Munich and restored the Spanish side’s one-goal aggregate advantage – much to the home side’s disbelief.

Villarreal held on to their lead to win the quarter-final tie 2-1 on aggregate, knocking Lewandowski and Bayern out of the competition.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side will next return to action on Sunday in the Bundesliga. They’ll visit Arminia Bielefeld. Bet365 has them priced as clear favorites at odds of 1.18 – implying they have an 85% chance of victory.
