Napoli are on a two-match losing streak, and Kalidou Koulibaly has challenged the team to try and win the next two matches.

Napoli were found on the wrong end of the 2-0 scoreline after the full-time whistle at San Paolo on Sunday.

Gli Azzurri had faced yet another upset just prior to the Sassuolo match, a narrow 1-0 loss in the Europa League against Real Sociedad, making it back to back losses.

Their recent dip in form has forced them into rather underprivileged positions in the league as well in Europe. They hold the fifth spot in the Serie A table and sit second in the Europa League Group F.

With fixtures coming thick and fast, Gennaro Gattuso’s men need to find their feet as soon as possible if they intend on doing better than last season.

“We wanted to win but we didn’t. We’re sorry for the defeat. If we stop at this defeat, we won’t improve,” Kalidou Koulibaly told Sky Sports after the loss to Sassuolo, via Football Italia.

“We can’t use last Thursday’s game as an alibi. We need to think about winning this Thursday’s game against Rijeka and on Sunday in the League against Bologna, let’s think big.

“We created many opportunities to score, but we didn’t grab them.”
