The president gave his verdict on the season objective that Xavi has set for Barcelona.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said Xavi Hernandez is the ‘best coach in the world’ and agreed the club must win silverware in 2022/23.

Despite back-to-back Champions League group-stage exits since Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman in November 2021, Barcelona have climbed back to the top of LaLiga. The Catalan club sit two points above Real Madrid this season.

The former Barcelona captain, however, refuses to rest on his laurels, insisting only league glory would deem the current campaign as a ‘good season’.

“We need to win titles this season. I totally agree with Xavi,” Laporta told Barca TV.

“I am very lucky to have the best coach in the world. Xavi, besides his great football knowledge, is a man who is always very interesting to listen to with his reasoning. He is also a club man and is very aligned with the club.

“We share moments together, and also we share much of everything that is being done, and I feel very accompanied and supported by Xavi and all his staff.

“They are people in whom we all have full confidence in their knowledge but also in their sense of the club, which is very important, very important.”

Barcelona return to action on December 31 in LaLiga on New Years’ Eve. The Blaugrana will face Espanyol at the Spotify Camp Nou for a Catalan derby. Judging by the current odds on Bet365, they have an 80% chance of collecting all three points.
