French national team’s coach Didier Deschamps believes Kylian Mbappe gave his best for PSG in the 2019-20 campaign.

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe failed to make an impact in his first Champions League final, as Bayern beat the French champions to claim their sixth European crown.

The 21-year-old striker disappointed the football fans around the world with his average performance, making himself a scapegoat for PSG’s defeat in the final last Sunday.

His national team coach, Didier Deschamps however, defended Mbappe from the criticism reminding the public he is just a human being after all.

“From the moment they don’t get the expected result and Kylian, like Neymar, is one of the players who has to make the difference, he is criticised when he isn’t successful,” Deschamps told reporters via Goal.

“Kylian is Kylian, he is not a robot. He did some good things; he could have done other things better.”

“You have to take the context into account. Being stopped by an injury and having to come back could have had an impact on the semi-final and the final.”

Mbappe guided PSG to a domestic treble this season (Ligue 1, Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France), noting 30 goals and 19 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

His 18 goals in the French League helped the 21-year-old to claim his second Ligue 1 Top goalscorer award, which he shared with AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder.

He found his name on Deschamps 23-men list for France’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Sweden in the first week of September.
